I purchased this item after seeing one in action in a Jet Li movie and wanting to try it out. Heavy foam surrounding a PVC core sturdily attached to ballbearing 5 inch chains. It works very well. Has not broken yet. Taking a hit hurts somewhat, this is no packing foam. Works very well, looks very professional. Only problem I have noticed is the little rubber caps on the end pop off, but they are purely for aesthetics and aren't that important even for that.

Kung-fu-rrific!!!Nov 11, 2009
By Tommy Johnson The foam staff is good to practice with, because it doesn't hurt when/if you accidently hit yourself. (It's a little hard to control) I know I would have many bruises if I got the wooden one! But like with everything else in life, practice makes perfect.

Great for playing aroundApr 22, 2011
By Yarrzipan I've had a lot of fun spinning this solo (I have a background in poi and some staff training), and even used it with some boffer-fighting friends (careful not to hit them with the metal ends). A++ for anybody looking to pretend to be Jet Li.

FantasticApr 12, 2011
By Alysius This is a great Three Section Staff for practicing. It's the first practice staff that I've ever owned and I'm very happy with it.
It is very lightweight and appears to be made out of some sort of PVC piping with "excercise equipment foam" covering it.
I performed a few simple routines with the staff and found that it works very well and wasn't painfull at all when I accidently struck myself with it. But it does have metal links/swivels so be warned, still not a toy.
It also came with a golden dragon across the center section, which was a nice little suprise considering it wasn't in the description.

i am a former 2nd degree black belt in tae kwon do and i have skills with the nunchucks. i wanted to try something new and try a 3 section staff. i am happy with the product since it has ball bearings and a pvc core for fast movements. the good thing is that it has foam so hitting yourself doesn't hurt as bad. buy this product if you have some training in martial arts. i do not recommend this if you just want it as a toy. it makes for a good show piece though.
